He did it! Koen Vereecke was riding a top show all week, but today he put the cherry on the cake by winning the Grand Prix of Beervelde!
56 riders started in this Flanders Horse Event-Lebeau Courally-STX-Catwalk Prize, a CSI3* class over 1m55 with jump off. Only twelve managed to stay clear in Louis Koninckx’ course and Koen Vereecke kept his promise. Earlier today, he confided that he would be happy to ride the jump off. Not only did he ride it, but with a 40.28 sec. time he also was the fastest clear with his nine-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare by Cardento x Gottwald. Not only did he win the class, but he also confirmed his title of best CSI3* rider and was rewarded with a STX show box on top of his prizemoney, Lebeau Courally watch and the giant Kletz trophy.
For a moment, French rider Jacques Helmlinger seemed to be able to dethrone Koen. He rode an excellent jump off with Tonic des Mets (SF, Origon des Champs x Damoiseau d’Or) but was just moments slower and stopped the clock at 40.35 sec, stranding on a second place.
The third place was for Belgium again with an Yves Vanderhasselt who also had a very good show. Yves and Hetman of Colors (Calvaro x Querlybet Hero) performed a clear in a 44.13 sec. time.
The best CSI3* female rider was the Dutch Kim Emmen. Kim received a Catwalk voucher.
